<![CDATA[While the cultural stigma surrounding sex and sexual activities has been lifted for the most part in the past 50 years or so and is no longer a taboo topic, it just goes to show how much has changed in such a short period of time. Or perhaps, to be more specific, how much our outlook of it has changed. And while the term “sexual revolution” has been thrown around on various occasions throughout history, even in the Victorian age, it was a development that can be attributed to the modern world that introduced new ideas and ways of thinking, saw a tremendous loss of power of moral values that were rooted in the Christian tradition, and the rise of more progressive and liberal philosophies, but also a radical shift in perception and sexual practices that developed in the sixties. The ideas and practices captured in the concept of “free love” would go on to reach mainstream America, and most of the western Europe, which were the cultural epicenters at the time. The world saw a significant change when it came to our understanding of sexuality, premarital sex, masturbation, sexual fantasies and the roles of men and women and their interaction in all matters regarding sexual relationships. All of these profound shifts can be contributed to many factors, the most obvious being the hippie movement. But, modern medicine may have also played an important role. With the discovery of a birth control pill, and subsequently other modern means of contraception, and penicillin, which was able to eradicate syphilis very effectively, a vastly different approach was adopted when it came to sexual encounters between unmarried adults. Probably the most important catalyst for the sexual revolution came in the form of mass media, especially with the rise of a new medium: television. This new mean of mass communication was able to reach millions of people within a matter of seconds, adding a visual component which radio couldn’t provide, and it took full advantage of the power that only images possessed to change the minds of an entire generation. Being such a broad subject, we’re just going to touch on it lightly, in order to get our point across. We’re going to harken back to the olden days, and lessons taught back then, before our faces were bathed in the warm rays of cathode ray tubes, LCD and plasma screens. Let’s take a look at some of the age-old wisdom, transporting ourselves into a more simple time, an alternate reality if you will, completely disregarding the inventions which are detrimental to our critical way of thinking and take in the sage advice that was used to protect our poor, weak ancestors from straying and indulging in practices that were unworthy of a decent man, such as the heinous acts of masturbation and premarital sexual relations. So take heed, sinners, for this may be your last chance to save your soul from eternal damnation. Although you may hear some people advocating masturbation as something that is completely natural, normal and healthy, please try not to get distracted. We all know that masturbation is an act which can cause you to lose your hair, or rather have your hair migrate to the skin of your palms, but that would be the least of your problems. It can also make you go blind, deaf or mute, or in the worst case, all three, turning you into a “Pinball Wizard”. But, you’d still be alive, unlike the unfortunate patient of Joseph W. Howe, M.D, a renowned professor, physician and surgeon and a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. The patient’s plight was described in the book “Excessive Venery, Masturbation and Continence”, published in 1889, which can be found at forgottenbooks.org (PIBN: 1000015388). The man in question said: “I commenced to masturbate, and finally went frequently with loose women to such an extent that my health broke down, my lungs gave out, and now I am dying.”But, this book also proposes many questionable ideas that we consider normal by today’s standards. If you feel this is too provocative for you, you might consider reading a book written by author Hans Fehlinger, titled “Sexual Life of Primitive People”, published in 1922, forgottenbooks.org (PIBN: 1000026521). Fear of evil consequences is without a doubt a great moral power in this world, and although it may not be the noblest propelling force, it serves as good reminder to anyone who indulges in such activity, that “his sin will find him out, and if he marries, with his powers undermined by unlawful gratification, it will be visited upon his children also”, as remarked by a clergyman who seems to have been blessed with more than the ordinary amount clerical common sense on this question. “He might further be informed that many of the sicknesses to which we are subject may be traced to this cause, and that many of those complaints set down as nervous debility, much languor and loss of spirit, much feebleness of mind, much dimness of sight, much loss of manly bearing.” This goes on to show that pretty much anything you do, will cause you to develop a serious mental illness. So, before continuing down your path of sin, ask yourself: “Was is worth it?” “I would further instruct a youth that this degrading practice obtains such a hold upon any one indulging in it that he seems unable to free himself from its grasp.” One would argue that engaging in a vile act of masturbation will make you develop an addiction, to which you will eventually succumb. Also, establishing a correlation between drug abuse and masturbation could also be a topic for debate. "There is a crack in everything that God has made, and this is undoubtedly true of poor human nature. We have not yet reached perfection and probably never will”. While this may sound comforting, it does not absolve you from your wrong-doings and you should think long and hard about the way you live your life. If none of these gems has touched you even in the slightest sense, then you are truly lost. So, there you have it. A wholesome advice for those who still appreciate old fashioned values, and resist giving into the fad of so called “sexual liberation”. And for those that stubbornly refuse to be saved, I recommend that they listen to the song I’ve borrowed the title of this article from.]]>
