This raises all sorts questions in my mind. But first and foremost, there MUST be provenance provided by the seller or these ancient artifacts BEFORE any ‘museum’ displays them in these dark times, ever since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq continuing to this day with the thefts and “transfers” of archaeological artifacts taken from Syrian sites as well. Well documented thousands of thefts and sales for profit. From common thieves like a New Yorker apprehended at Kennedy in 2004 with ancient Babylonian seals that he ‘didn’t know’ were valuable, claimed to Customs officer but prosecuted by Manhattan DA…to current ISIS thefts/sales. Museum curators MUST by law know /verify provenance prior to taking custody. “Oriental Heritage” in an Israeli museum without provenance is international trafficking/law breaking with impunity.
