“In doing so, the new regime became legitimised, enhancing English power in Ireland.”
I don’t know what that really means. The New Model Army had waged a devastating war in Ireland, so there really wasn’t much choice as regards legal forums thereafter. If it was so well accepted, why then, a few decades later, did the Irish rebel again during the War of the Two Kings?
No, it was the New Model Army and not its new model legal system that ‘enhanced’ English power in Ireland. To suggest otherwise is stretching it a little bit.
